Description

A fish is lost at the weakest point between the rod and the hook. These four editions go down that chain one link at a time.

The box first, because most boxes are full of answers to questions the water never asks. Then the knot, where most failures start and almost nobody looks. Then the line, read from the broken end rather than guessed at. And the last six feet, where a fish that followed tells you what it has already decided.

What is in it

  • The Tackle Box Audit (19-page print edition, with a pack-and-maintain sheet). Twelve jobs a tackle box has to cover, scored against the water you actually fish, with a verdict that is allowed to be buy nothing.
  • The Knot Fault Atlas (19-page print edition). Twelve load-carrying connections drawn in three states, right, holding and gone, from one geometry with exactly one thing changed. The middle state, the knot that is wrong and holding anyway, is the point.
  • Line Failure Lab (19-page print edition). Diagnose a break from the physical end across eleven failure sites, with a bench test for each and a protocol that proves the fix.
  • Field Deck 02: The Last Six Feet (28 cards, 52-page print set). What a follow has already settled, so you stop spending casts there, and how to find out what is still live.

Format

Eight files. Each edition comes as a single self-contained web page that works with no signal once it is on your phone, and as a Letter print edition.

Who it is for

Anglers who have lost a good fish to a failure they could not name, and would rather find the weak link at the kitchen table than on the water.

Who should not buy it

If your trouble is where to fish rather than what failed, start with Read the Water instead. None of these editions recommend a brand or sell you gear.

Already own some of these? The collection includes all four; there is no automatic credit for an earlier purchase.
