This Privacy Policy explains how Hook the Horizon, published by Northern Lantern House LLC, handles information on hookthehorizon.blog and in Hook the Horizon tools that explicitly link to this policy. Separately hosted field applications may provide their own notice; where they do, that notice controls for information entered there.
1. Information you choose to provide
You may provide a name, email address, message, correction or accessibility report, subscription preference, account or order information, survey response, or field inputs requested by a tool. Depending on the feature, field inputs may describe water type, weather, species, tackle, presentation, trip conditions, or observations.
Do not submit passwords, full payment-card numbers, government identifiers, private medical records, exact home addresses, private-access credentials, or exact sensitive fishing locations a feature does not need.
2. Information collected automatically
Hosting, security, consent, analytics, advertising, commerce, email, and delivery services may receive technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages requested, timestamps, consent choices, error data, and security events.
3. Cookies, consent, analytics, advertising, and local storage
Strictly necessary technologies may be used for security, consent choices, sessions, account access, carts, checkout, and requested features. Optional analytics and advertising technologies are controlled through the site’s consent system where required. Hook the Horizon uses or may use Google services including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google and other authorized advertising providers, may place or read cookies in your browser or use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers as a result of ad serving. Google may use advertising cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this site or other sites when personalized advertising is permitted; you can manage personalized advertising in Google My Ad Center, and Google explains how it uses data on partner sites and apps at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
WooCommerce, payment providers, email services, security services, and other enabled services may set or read cookies when their functions are used. Some field tools may keep working inputs in your browser. A feature that saves or syncs information beyond the current session should explain that behavior where it occurs.
You can change optional choices using Cookie Settings. Google advertising preferences can also be managed through Google My Ad Center or browser controls. The live register below is generated by the site’s consent software.
4. Contact, email, and subscriptions
Information you provide through contact or email subscription features is used to respond, deliver requested communications, maintain consent and suppression records, prevent abuse, and keep appropriate operational records. Marketing email includes an unsubscribe method.
5. Accounts, purchases, and payment
When you purchase a Hook the Horizon product, Northern Lantern House LLC is the seller of record. Order records may include the product, price, date, delivery or entitlement status, billing information needed for the transaction, and the purchase email address. Payment is processed by the provider shown at checkout; Hook the Horizon does not receive the full payment-card number.
6. Field tools and location privacy
Hook the Horizon tools are designed to use only information reasonably needed for the requested result. Avoid exact coordinates, private-access routes, gate codes, live home-adjacent routines, or other sensitive location information when the decision does not require them.
Hook the Horizon does not use ordinary public tools to build a secret-spot database. Exact coordinates or sensitive habitat locations may be withheld or generalized in editorial work to reduce pressure, protect habitat, respect private access, and preserve safety. See Conservation and Location Privacy.
7. Advertising, affiliate links, sponsors, and external services
Hook the Horizon may use display advertising, affiliate links, sponsorships, gifted gear or access, owned products, maps, embeds, or links to third-party services. Those services may process information under their own terms and privacy notices. Commercial relationships are disclosed where relevant to a recommendation.
8. How information is used
- to provide requested pages, tools, products, communications, and support;
- to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site and applications;
- to process purchases, delivery, entitlement, recovery, refunds, and accounting;
- to measure audience and service performance when permitted;
- to prevent spam, fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access;
- to maintain consent, correction, suppression, security, and audit records; and
- to comply with law and protect rights, safety, privacy, conservation interests, and service integrity.
9. Service providers and sharing
Information may be processed by providers that support hosting, content delivery, security, consent, analytics, advertising, email, forms, commerce, payment, backups, and application infrastructure. Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, investigate abuse, protect rights or safety, or complete a legitimate business transfer with appropriate safeguards.
Hook the Horizon does not sell personal information as a stand-alone data product. Advertising technology can still involve activity that some laws define as sharing or targeted advertising.
10. Retention and security
Information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, security, backups, accounting, consent records, legal obligations, disputes, and purchase recovery. Reasonable safeguards are used, but no website, application, or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.
11. Privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or obtain a copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent for optional processing. California and other U.S. state laws may provide rights concerning certain sale, sharing, targeted-advertising, or profiling uses. EEA and UK residents may have additional data-protection rights and may complain to the appropriate supervisory authority.
Use the Hook Us page for a privacy request. We may need to verify identity before fulfilling it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right provided by applicable law.
12. Children
Hook the Horizon is not designed to collect children’s personal information through public tools. Do not submit identifying or sensitive information about children through ordinary field or editorial features unless a specific feature clearly requires it and appropriate consent and safeguards are in place.
13. Changes and contact
Material changes are reflected in the effective or last-reviewed date. For privacy questions, use the Hook Us page or email hello@northernlanternhouse.com.
