Hook the Horizon publishes general fishing education, field observations, tackle and presentation guidance, conservation information, and decision-support tools. This page collects the publication’s principal safety, professional, software, results, and commercial disclosures.
General information; no professional relationship
Hook the Horizon does not provide individualized guide services, emergency services, legal advice, regulatory approval, navigation certification, wildlife management advice, or other licensed professional services through the publication or its tools. Reading a page, using a tool, buying a product, or contacting the publication does not create a guide-client, safety-professional, legal, or other professional relationship or duty of care.
Fishing, boating, wading, ice, weather, and wildlife risk
Fishing and outdoor travel can involve inherent physical danger. Weather, water levels, current, waves, ice, fire conditions, visibility, wildlife, terrain, boat traffic, access, and equipment can change quickly. Check current forecasts, warnings, closures, emergency information, equipment ratings, and on-site conditions before and during a trip. Use appropriate flotation, safety equipment, communications, and personal judgment for the activity and conditions.
No article, tool, map, field note, or product makes water safe, proves ice safe, guarantees a route is passable, or establishes that conditions are within your ability or equipment margin.
Regulations, licences, access, conservation, and fish handling
Fishing licences, seasons, methods, bag and possession limits, protected species, catch-and-release rules, boating requirements, access rules, and closures vary by jurisdiction and can change after publication. Verify the controlling rule for the exact water, date, species, and activity with the responsible fish-and-wildlife agency, land manager, boating authority, or other official source.
Species behavior and wildlife encounters are not guaranteed. Follow current conservation, invasive-species, fish-handling, and wildlife guidance for the water you are using. Sensitive locations may be generalized or withheld to protect habitat, lawful access, safety, or small waters from unnecessary pressure.
Applications, field tools, and generated outputs
Hook the Horizon applications, Field Ops tools, species, hatch, tackle, knot, rig, water, and other decision-support products are provided as is and as available to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, error-free output, permanent availability, or freedom from browser, database, network, hosting, synchronization, live-data, or software failures.
Keep independent copies of information that would be costly or unsafe to lose. Do not use a Hook the Horizon tool as the sole source for emergency, navigation, weather, access, regulatory, safety, or medical decisions. Tool outputs are bounded decision support, not legal permission, safety clearance, a live conditions service, or a guarantee that fish will behave as predicted.
AI-assisted work and human oversight
Automated and generative systems, including tools such as Claude when used, and editing software such as Grammarly when used, may assist with research organization, source discovery, analysis, structure, drafting support, editing, coding, metadata, accessibility work, and production quality assurance. Published editorial work is reviewed and finalized by a human. AI is not treated as the attributed author, a witness, professional judgment, or evidence.
AI may not fabricate trips, catches, misses, field tests, gear use, store visits, water conditions, measurements, locations, sources, quotations, reactions, preferences, or results. A first-person field account must rest on a real human experience. Generated or materially altered media that could reasonably be mistaken for documentary evidence should be labeled or presented with clear provenance.
Advertising, affiliate links, sponsorships, gifts, and owned products
Hook the Horizon may earn money from display advertising, affiliate links, sponsorships, gifted gear or access, licensing, and products or applications owned by Northern Lantern House LLC. A material relationship that could reasonably affect how a recommendation is understood is disclosed before or beside the affected recommendation. A site-wide statement does not replace proximity disclosure.
No commercial relationship purchases a positive gear verdict, safety claim, catch claim, field-test status, correction outcome, or editorial conclusion.
No guaranteed results
Fishing results depend on water, season, weather, fish behavior, forage, pressure, presentation, gear, access, skill, and chance. Hook the Horizon does not guarantee catches, fish location, equipment performance, access, trip safety, or results from a particular presentation or recommendation.
External links and third parties
Links to agencies, maps, land managers, retailers, manufacturers, guides, lodges, weather services, or other websites are provided for context or convenience. We do not control their content, security, availability, pricing, later changes, or policies.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Hook the Horizon and Northern Lantern House LLC are not liable for losses arising from reliance on general editorial material, use or inability to use a tool, third-party conduct, data loss, changing outdoor conditions, wildlife, access changes, equipment failure, or decisions made from published material. Nothing here excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Corrections and accountability
Material errors are corrected under the process in the Editorial Standards. Safety, regulations, access, conservation, evidence, species identification, and commercial-disclosure issues receive priority. Commercial relationships do not block legitimate corrections.
