Something worked. Then it stopped.

Most fishing advice answers that by handing you a different lure, which is a guess wearing a price tag. This deck does the other thing. It tells you what a change actually did to the water, what it did not touch, and how to test one variable at a time so the result means something.

Twenty-nine cards, in two halves

Seventeen read cards

One for each thing that decides a day. The river came up. They ran the dam. The wind swung overnight. Turnover. The reservoir is twenty feet down and the ramp is a mudflat. The tide turned. Each card says what moves, where that puts fish, how to confirm it standing there before you fish it, and how long the change lasts.

Every read card ends the same way, on the part nobody else prints: what this does not change. Structure does not move because it rained. Post-front fish are usually in the same places doing less, not somewhere else doing something different — hunting for a new spot is the standard mistake. One variable moving is not permission to rewrite the whole day, and that band sits on every card because it is the error that costs the most afternoons.

Eleven test cards

Depth. Speed. Pause. Angle. Profile. Changing the question rather than the lure. Whether you actually know where your bait is. Whether they saw you first. Moving water. And the two that cost nothing — watching for ten minutes before you touch anything, and writing down what you changed.

Each one names the single thing to move, the things to hold still, and then does the part missing from every other fishing product: a result table. If this happens, here is what it means, and here is where to go next. A follow that turns away is an answer. So is a blank, if you set the question up properly.

And one stop card

The lake smells of the bottom. Fish are staked out on clean gravel and not eating. The water is above the handling temperature for the species. Sometimes there is no card left that says try harder, and nothing else sold to anglers has a commercial reason to tell you so.

What it is not

No lure lists. No hotspots, no marks, no coordinates. No forecast — nothing in here reads a gauge or claims to know your water today. You bring the event; the card tells you what that event does to water of its class. Public water only, and where the honest answer is to leave, the card says leave.
