First Cast — The Family & New Angler Trip Kit

$14.00

Created and presented by Hook the Horizon. Sold and supported by Northern Lantern House LLC.

Fourteen days, no reason required. If a file will not open or will not print, there is no clock on that at all. How refunds work

Everything for a first fishing trip that ends with someone asking when you can go again: easy water, a short plan, a job for everyone, and what to do when things go wrong. A printed kit plus an offline page for your phone at the water.

One angler, one license. It is yours to read, print, carry on the water, and use on every trip you take. The download links do not expire and there is no limit on how many times you use them. Revisions are free. What is not allowed is reselling it, redistributing it, publishing it somewhere other people can download it, or using it as training data. Terms of Sale · Refunds

Description

Most first fishing trips go wrong the same way: too long, too far, too complicated, and the adult ends up fishing while the new angler gets bored.

The free First Cast page gets you to your own first trip. This kit is for the other job: taking a child, a grandchild or a grown-up friend on theirs. It keeps three promises: short (an hour to an hour and a half, ending before anyone is done), close (a short walk, with small fish near the bank) and theirs (they hold the rod; you are the guide, so your own rod stays home).

The printed kit

  • The Easy Water Test: eight questions that pick good first-trip water. Two of them decide on their own: fishing allowed and a licence check done, and a safe edge to stand on.
  • The packing list, including what to leave at home.
  • The simple rig, drawn and explained: a bobber, one small weight and a small hook with the barb pinched flat, rigged at home with three spares that clip on in a minute. Plus the shopping list.
  • The Trip Card for 60, 75 or 90 minutes: set up, first casts, keep something happening, finish while it is still fun.
  • Six crew job cards to cut apart: Bobber Watcher, Bait Boss, Safety Spotter, Trash Ranger, Photographer, Weather Reporter.
  • Twenty side quests for when the fish go quiet.
  • Seventeen quick fixes: tangles, snags, no bites, boredom, arguments over the rod, a hook in clothing or skin, thunder, and more.
  • Handling a fish and safety at the water.
  • The next five trips: one new skill each, from watching the bobber to choosing the spot. Plus notes for when the new angler is a teenager or an adult.
  • The First Cast certificate, which works fish or no fish, and the Trip Page for drawing the water and planning next time.

The offline page

The same kit on your phone, working at the water with no signal: the Easy Water Test with a verdict, the packing ticks, a trip clock that tells you which part of the trip you are in and when to check the bait, a side-quest button, the quick fixes, fish handling and safety.

What it will not do

It asks for no names, ages or photos, and the page sends nothing anywhere. It states no rules: whether anyone needs a licence, what may be kept and whether life jackets are required come from your state or provincial agency, and the kit tells you to check and write down where. It names no place to fish and promises no fish.

Format

A 14-page Letter PDF laid out for a home printer, and a single offline web page (.html). Print as many copies as your own trips need: a fresh certificate and Trip Page every time.

When the new angler wants more, First 10 Trips — The Field Course picks up from trip five.
